True Love: A Divine Gift, Not a Fleeting Desire

Understanding the Essence of Love

Love, a concept as old as humanity itself, has been the subject of countless poems, songs, and philosophical debates. Yet, its true nature often remains difficult to make precise. In the frame of human emotions, love stands out as the most profound, enduring, patience, understanding and so many more.

The question is "what does the bible as to say about love?" since it is the source of truth which is life...

Now, the Bible which as timeless source of wisdom, offers a profound understanding of love. It presents love not merely as a fleeting emotion, but as a divine gift that transcends cultural and temporal boundaries.

  • Agape Love (Uncoditional love): This is the highest form of love, characterized by selfless giving and unconditional acceptance, just exactly the God's love for humanity, a parent's love for their child, regardless of their child's behavior or circumstances.
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."1 (John 3:16).
  • Phileo Love: This is a brotherly love, marked by affection and loyalty. Even though sometimes our siblings naturally shows this obligation that since we came out of the same womb "i just dont have a choice than to love you"  that's phileo love speaking and Sometimes close friends can show more sincere love than siblings. We just have to find love among ourselves irrespective of our religion, ethnicity, tribe and body color.
"And Jonathan said to David, “The Lord be with you, as he has been with my father.” And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that he wore, and gave it to David, and his garments, even to his sword, and to his bow, and to his girdle." (1 Samuel 18:4).
  • Eros Love: This is romantic love, which should be expressed within the confines of marriage. The love between a husband and wife. This days people use this phrase "i love you" more often in a relationship which in evidence it's only intent is to have se* and discard each other, i honestly think if you the urge for se* comes, just go straight to the point and say what you want instead of being cunning, using sweet words and other forms of method to break someones heart and leave other dear ones to suffer the fate of bad relationship encounters, and that's one of the more reasons why it should be practiced within the cofinement of marrage which is sweeter and as validations not only by men but also by God.
"Draw me, we will run after you. The king has brought me into his chambers; we will exult and rejoice in you; we will praise your love more than wine. They love you rightly." (Song of Solomon 1:4).

It's important to note that while these are distinct types of love, they often intertwine and complement each other in real-life relationships. A healthy romantic relationship, for instance, should be grounded in both eros love and agape love.

Differentiating True Love from Lust
Often, we confuse lust with love, that's true. Lust is a fleeting desire, rooted in physical attraction and self-gratification. It is selfish and transient. True love, on the other hand, is selfless, sacrificial, and enduring. It seeks the well-being of the beloved, even at personal cost. The point is we just have to differenciate lust from love within us, based on the situation around our lives, our wants, needs and self pleasure we could be able to know the honest truth of how we feel towards someone
